Food adventures at the Pancakes on the Rocks

Hi! If you live in Sydney then you might be familiar with the restaurant "Pancakes on the rocks". They have a few locations in Sydney and are quite popular. Today I'll be sharing a few dishes that I have tried and talk a bit about my experience =)

First will be the pancakes:

Strawberry Patch - $13.95
Buttermilk pancakes with fresh strawberries, cream, vanilla ice cream and strawberry coulis

I'm a really big fan of strawberries (if you didn't know already) so this pancake was a must to try on my list. I really enjoyed this one minus the cream since I don't like cream, but if you love strawberries I think you would really like this one!

Chocolate Jewels - $11.95
Our original chocolate pancakes with cream and chocolate ice cream, smothered in chocolate sauce
Sorry for the blurry pic, I must have been too excited to eat it lol. This pancake pretty much tasted like chocolate cake. It was pretty sweet and a must if you love chocolate. Think of it as chocolate goodness on a plate =)

Bananarama - $12.95
Buttermilk pancakes with grilled banana and home made butterscotch sauce, topped with cream and vanilla ice cream
How perfect does this pic look? This isn't my favourite flavour that I have tried but if you like bananas and walnuts then this might be the one for you =)

Vanilla & Choc Suprise - $10.95
One of each buttermilk and chocolate pancakes, with vanilla and chocolate ice creams, drizzled with chocolate sauce

This first image looks so perfect! Too bad sometimes it looks like this:

Or even like this...:

Nonetheless, this is one of my favourite flavours and I would definitely recommend. You get a mix of both types of pancakes which is nice. Although, it is pretty sweet if you just order this dish on it's own!

Short Stack - $7.95
Two Pancakes served with ice cream and maple syrup
If you are looking for some plain pancakes then I would definitely recommend these. You can get just one pancake or go up to even 4 pancakes. I would suggest maybe ordering this as a side or possibly a main for a light eater.

Tandoori Chicken - $17.95
Tender pieces of chicken breast marinated tandoori style. With spanish onions, sweet potato cashew nuts and mozzarella cheese, topped with mango chutney minted yoghurt and coriander
If you didn't know, the pancakes on the rocks also serves other things apart from pancakes, one of them being pizza. I really like this pizza! The flavours just go really well together. However I do think that it's pretty overpriced as the pizza is pretty thin!

Another thing about the Pancakes on the Rocks is that it's always crowded. Sometimes it takes a really long time for the food to come, although other times it's pretty decent. I have had a bad experience where I had to ask the lady for water 3 times until she bothered to bring me some. Each time I asked her she would say "okay" then would start cleaning another table or serving other people!

As for the pancakes, taste wise, I would say that they are amazing or to-die-for. Rather, they are really nice. Size wise, I think would be too much for one person but too little for two people. I would suggest ordering one sweet and one savoury dish to share between 2-3 people. Although this depends on how much you eat I guess.

The presentation is usually pretty good however as you can see from some of the images, they can get pretty sloppy. Nonetheless, the taste is still the same.

I have only been to the restaurant at  Darling Harbour and The Rocks. I do prefer the one at Darling Harbour more as it's location friendly and more spacious. The one at The Rocks has two levels, is pretty much in the middle of no where and it was quite dim upstairs. They also put way too much sugar icing on my pancake (see the 6th photo). However, I've only been to the one at The Rocks once.

Overall, I would recommend the Pancakes on the Rocks if you've never been. They do have quite an extensive menu offering both sweet and savoury dishes. Just keep in mind that there might be a wait and the food isn't super cheap but not super expensive. A great place with friends and/or family! =)
